Dr. McDonnell is an ocean scientist and engineer with experience managing a broad research, teaching, and service portfolio focused on Earth’s changing ocean, climate, and biogeochemical systems, as well as the development of innovative solutions to these challenges.  His research activities include the use of underwater imaging systems and models to study the ocean carbon cycle, as well as the development and deployment of new technologies, approaches, programs, and companies to accelerate the energy transition here in Alaska.
